The origins of the national fish industry date back to the 19th century when the fish and canning industries met in Vila Real de Santo António. For over a century, fishing has been focused on tuna, resulting in canned fish that fed thousands of people around the world. As the industry grew, the demand grew, and gradually canned tuna became available to many families. The growth was such that the Algarvian coast showed signs of over-exploitation at the end of the 20th century. At the same time, the migratory routes for tuna began to change. Faced with this situation, the canning industry began seeking alternatives, and it was that Bom Petisco acquired its Azorean DNA in 1962. As the preferred transport point for many marine animals in migration, with their cold waters and fish of unparalleled quality, the Azores Islands have been chosen for the construction of the company's factory. Today we are proud to say that part of our production with fresh fish from the Azores is guaranteed. Over 50 years Bom Petisco On the island of São Miguel, the production of Bom Petisco has a history of over 50 years. This is the story written by the hands of our staff who prepare the fish every day to make the best petisco* available to everyone - our tuna.
