The Celestron off-axis guider uses a prism to capture a small proportion of the focal plane (outside the field of view of the main imaging camera) to locate a guiding star. The motion of the imaging camera will accurately correspond to the movements of the guide star. In this way, tracking errors and opto-mechanical bending errors are corrected. The result: better astro images with sharp, round stars. Off-Axis Guiders have been around for a long time, but usually they have three drawbacks: 1. Finding a guide star in the edge areas of the focal plane of the telescope can prove difficult considering the small field of view and sometimes poor lighting. 2. Focusing the imaging camera and autoguider at the same time can be time-consuming and sometimes needs to be experimented. 3. Other spacers and adapters are often required for your specific camera, telescope and car guider, making their use even more complicated. Off-axis guider solves these problems: 1. It has a large 12.5mm prism that can be adjusted to move closer to the center of the focal plane of the telescope, depending on the size of the imaging camera.
